Mr Zelensky: "Hiroshima after the atomic bombing overlaps with Ukraine."
2023年5月21日夜、ウクライナのウォロディミル・ゼレンスキー大統領は広島市で演説を行い、衝撃的な日本訪問を締めくくった。(English) On the evening of the 21st of May, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a speech in the city of Hiroshima to conclude his electrifying visit to Japan.
Main remarks of President Zelensky:
There should be no war in the history of humanity.
Like Hiroshima, Ukrainian cities dream of being rebuilt.
Our dream is to win and restore peace.
The photo of the destroyed Hiroshima resembles Bakhmut.
I thought that if Ukraine was to get so much attention, I had to attend.
Japan's experience is necessary for our post-war reconstruction.

A)
On the evening of the 21st of May, 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave a speech in the city of Hiroshima to conclude his electrifying visit to Japan.
He referred to the devastation of Hiroshima after the atomic bombing, which he had seen at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum (Atomic Bomb Museum), pointing out that "it resembles the ruins of our city, turned into a burnt field by Russian bombs and cannons".
He said, "There should be no war in the history of mankind,'' and appealed to Japan and other countries to help Ukraine recover, like Hiroshima.
After delivering a speech at the International Conference Hall in the Peace Memorial Park, he answered more than ten questions from domestic and foreign journalists. He then left for Ukraine on a particular plane from Hiroshima Airport.
B)
Mr Zelensky mentioned that he had seen a photograph of a "human figure stone" left by the heat rays of the atomic bomb.
He said, "Russian President Vladimir Putin (who denies the uniqueness of Ukrainians) tried to make Ukraine like this shadow.
He also pointed out that Bakhmut is an essential town in eastern Ukraine: "The photo of destroyed Hiroshima resembles Bakhmut. Nothing is alive. All the buildings are destroyed.
"How can children do this?" he lamented, recalling the many victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and the current war in Ukraine.
C)
Afterwards, he said: "Now Hiroshima has been rebuilt. I dream that the streets of Ukraine will be rebuilt as soon as possible".
Furthermore, he claimed: "I was able to compare the city of Hiroshima (when the atomic bomb was dropped) with the city of today. Bakhmut will have such a reconstruction in the future".
"We must make Russia the last aggressor," he said, by repelling Russia and deterring future aggression against other countries. "Victory against Russia and peace is my dream," he said, calling for support to continue the struggle.
It appears that Mr Zelensky also aimed to raise the interest of the Japanese people in Ukraine by drawing parallels between the damage caused by the war in Ukraine today and the devastation after the atomic bombings, leading to increased support.
D)
Explaining why he attended the G7 Hiroshima Summit as President during the war, he said, "I thought I had to attend if Ukraine was going to get so much attention".
He said that "Japan's experience is necessary" for post-war reconstruction and expressed his expectations for cooperation in cutting-edge technologies such as green energy and railway construction.
As for arms assistance from Japan, he said that he "fully understands the legal and constitutional restrictions" and indicated that he would not actively seek it.
E)
Among the leaders of emerging and developing countries from the "global south" who attended the summit, they could not meet with President Lula of Brazil because of "convenience of schedule". Asked if he was disappointed, he replied: "I think he (Mr Lula) was disappointed".
